TAFE SWSi is home to one of the leading English language centres in NSW. Our specialised programs cover both beginner and advanced English courses and English for further study.

Whether you are preparing to work in Australia, want to add to your qualifications, or just improve your spoken and written English language skills, we can help you get a head start!

Our programs and services

The TAFE International Education Centre (TIEC) is located at TAFE SWSi’s Liverpool College, less than 100 metres from Liverpool bus and train station.

The TIEC is a specialist English language centre for international students who wish to study English in Sydney.

Our centre offers students all the benefits of first class English language teaching in a quality campus environment. Our expert teachers and quality resources help students improve their English language skills and achieve their career goals.

The centre is owned and operated by the New South Wales Government. The quality of our courses is guaranteed by TAFE NSW and is respected internationally. TIEC is also accredited by the National English Language Teaching Accreditation Scheme (NEAS) and is a member of English Australia.

English Language Courses

At TAFE SWSi we offer English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS).
With an English Language course at TAFE SWSi, you can:

  • develop your written and verbal English language skills from beginner to advanced level
  • improve your vocabulary
  • improve your English grammar skills.

Certificate IV in English
for Academic Purposes

ENTRY:Beginner to Advanced
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This program is for all students who want to improve their general English proficiency. It includes
General English, English for Further Study and English for Academic Purposes. In the lower levels, students learn basic grammar as well as the skills and confidence to communicate in English. This includes:
•     English conversation and pronunciation
•    Reading
•    Listening
•    Writing and computer skills
•     Vocabulary and grammar
After completion of the Pre- Intermediate level, students will also study the following:
•       Essay writing and assignment preparation
•      Seminar presentation skills
•      IELTS preparation
COURSE LENGTH: 5 – 50 weeks depending on your English level.
LEVELS: Beginner to Advanced.

ENTRY:Intermediate to Upper Intermediate (Approximately 4.5 in all areas of IELTS)
This program is for students who want to communicate more effectively with native speakers at workor in social situations, or who want to prepare to study in TAFE or at a university in an English speaking country, or for
the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test. This program further develops general English skills and includes:
•     IELTS preparation
•    Essay writing
•     Assignment preparation
•    Job search skills
Students who complete this program are eligible for direct entry into TAFE NSW programs if they meet the relevant academic requirements.
COURSE LENGTH:5 – 20 weeks depending on your English level.
CERTIFICATION: Certificate III in Advanced English for Further Study.

ENTRY: IELTS 5.5 in all areas
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course prepares students for study at an Australian university or in higher level courses at a
TAFE College. It is for students with an advanced level of English. Skills developed include:
•    Academic writing and research
•    Academic reading
•    Seminar presentation
•     Preparation of assignments
Students who complete this program are eligible for direct entry into University programs if they
meet the relevant academic requirements.
COURSE LENGTH: 5 – 20 weeks depending on your English Level.
CERTIFICATION: Certificate IV in English for academic Purposes.
